Dear Darkpaw, Let's Talk about TLP for 2026

A proposal rather than a report: move Lethar to 2027, give Frostreaver personal loot now, and build next year's server around questing experience and per-persona achievements. Because Legends is going to eat the audience.

The first Let's Talk, and it is a pitch rather than news. The argument: EverQuest Legends is going to take a large bite out of the audience this summer, Lethar will launch into that and underperform, and the fix is to swap the schedule. Give Frostreaver personal loot now, move Lethar to May 2027, and build it around something the expansion it starts on is uniquely suited to.

Opinion TLP scheduling Personal loot
ProposalLethar moves to May 2027
This yearFrostreaver gets personal loot
New bonusMassive questing experience

The Problem

Two launches competing for the same players.

  • Legends launches in July and I expect it to cannibalise Frostreaver in particular, and the casual community generally.
  • Lethar then launches into that in August, which I think produces a diminished start for a ruleset that deserves better.
  • TLP seasons run roughly May to December, so an August launch is already fighting the calendar as well as Legends.
  • None of this is negativity. I play daily, and I am trying to find a version of the schedule that works.

The Swap

Move the server, not the feature.

  • Put personal loot on Frostreaver this year. It is already the wildest ruleset they have shipped, and the feature would have been voted in unanimously anyway.
  • Push Lethar to May 2027 and let it be next year's server, which also saves them designing one.
  • The code already exists. Legends is a forked version of the live server, so personal loot is not new work.
  • Legends should have been a TLP server in my view, rather than a separate game.

The Heroes' Journey Bonus

The actual idea, and it fits the expansion.

  • Lethar starts on The Serpent's Spine, which is where the in-game Heroes' Journey path runs.
  • So make quests pay enormous experience, somewhere in the 500 to 1,000% range, enough that a quest is worth 10 to 20% of a level.
  • That creates a genuinely different way to level, questing rather than grinding, which no TLP has really offered.
  • Pair it with per-persona achievements. Let each persona complete questing achievements separately so the bonus is repeatable.
  • Keep slayer style achievements shared, since those are not the ones that gate questing experience.
  • Ship the persona change to live too, as a feature patch, so existing players can redo expansion quest lines for experience.

The Legends Prediction

Worth revisiting later.

  • Legends content can be finished in under two months without really trying, on my beta experience.
  • So it cannot sit on classic for six months. Kunark, Velious and Luclin will have to arrive fast to keep people.
  • Personal loot as Legends implements it is the only sensible version: everyone in the group gets an item, rather than a random chance at one.
  • A random-chance implementation would feel like nothing changed, since loot is already random.

The Proposal in Five Lines

  1. Legends will take the casual audience when it launches in July.
  2. So move Lethar to May 2027.
  3. Give Frostreaver personal loot this year instead.
  4. Build Lethar around questing experience, matching The Serpent's Spine.
  5. Let each persona earn questing achievements, on TLP and live both.

Hello and welcome. Uh today I want to do something something different. Uh I had an idea and I would like to propose this to Darkpaw Games. Uh So this is a this is a dear Dark Darkpaw video. Um Now >> [laughter] >> This is this is this is you know this is probably my only I’m the only person that thinks this is a good idea but Uh the too long didn’t read of this proposal is moving Lothar from August 2026 to May 2027. Now the reason why I think this needs to happen uh fundamentally is I think EverQuest Legends is going to cause this TLP to not get uh as many as many people as they should. And I think there is a way that they could uh do some really cool stuff here. Now uh so my my proposal is they take the the personal loot from Lothar, put it on Frost reaver. If it was an option to vote it would have got 100% voted no matter what anyway. All right. Take Lothar, push it to the next year, right? This could be the next year’s server. Now Lothar starts in the the Serpent’s Spine. So this this is the the expansion that revamps the leveling path uh for the Draken and that so you get Crescent regional that so that’s how it goes. So Frost reaver gets personal loot. So that server launches, you know, next week as planned and continues on. Now Lothar I I propose a new bonus called the Hero’s Journey {{}quote} {{}unquote} right? Because [snorts] that in the the in-game hero’s journey path that you take that gets added in the Seeds of Destruction expansion goes through the Serpent Spine, right? Now, what this the what this bonus would do was in would increase the experience gained from doing quests, all right? So, let’s call it a 1,000% experience. I don’t know what the the actual scaling would be. I don’t have uh spreadsheets with experience numbers and stuff like that, but all quests in the game would give a massive experience. Now, you’re like, “Oh, wait, but personas can only do it once.” Well, you know what? So, this is this is the next change. We make it so that achievements can be done by each persona that you have, right? So, if you have, you know, all the personas, you can do the same achievement over and over to get those bonuses and those experience, right? That that comes from those uh quests. Now, what this would do is create a a different way to level, uh leveling through questing, right? That is actually fun to do because you’re going to get some nice experience. You know, I I would I would I would would be looking at like 20 to something percent, you know, uh 20 to 30%, you know, questing experience. Maybe 10, you know, just depends on how it feels. But, uh personal loot would still be a thing on Lothar. Uh plus all the other bonuses that they they did say that would be on this server. Uh I think this would make would make the schedule uh that you know, that would be nice. It would give them a server for next year, and it would give them something to work towards, uh you know, to add to it to give it a little bit more. And they could they could take this achievement system allowing, you know, personas to do mul- the achievements over and over uh to put that on live servers, also. So, that would be a whole feature patch, if you will, uh between now and next uh next year, allowing personas then from that, you know, from that point forward, you know, on that server they going to they’re getting experience bonus, but on live servers, you know, you can redo the, you know, Tor Terror of uh Torment of Velious, Terror of Luclin, Lord Inquisitor and shattered Ro quests and get that experience again on your personas, helping you level slightly faster. I think this would really, really help out the schedule because so the way the way it looks right now, uh July sometime, uh Legends is going to launch, right? Uh I think once Legends Legends launch, it’s going to cannibalize a lot of Frostfell. That’s just my feeling, personally. Uh you know, there’s the the the casual community uh will be cannibalized by that. Now, the launch for Luclin will, in my opinion, be very diminished, even if there are, you know, some a few die hard people that want that server. I feel like moving it to its own year and its own thing will make it a stronger launch, allowing, you know, that system and stuff to go forward. And I think personal loot should be added to Frostfell, right? And give give us personal loot this year. Let us test it out on the the craziest server that you you’ve ever come up with, right? Like every single bonus. And I’m talking personal loot like how it is implemented on the Legends server, which is literally a forked version of the EverQuest live server. And I’m saying this would be uh everybody in the group against their own item, right? So, an item drops, everybody in the group gets an item, right? So, this is crazy random loot, crazy, you know, just absolute fun involved. This gets him, you know, that get then that sort of system gets added to the next one, right? I think it’s got a legacy characters, um uh, what else? Uh legacy characters and something else. I think it was first to engage and all the other stuff, right? So, that server will be much stronger uh, with the, you know, like an ex- like a it’s a questing questing expansion, so giving questing uh you know, bonuses and, you know, I I say a thousand percent, I don’t know what that actually means, right? Like I’m just it’s got to be a big number. A thousand a hundred percent doesn’t feel like we get a hundred percent bonus experience, and I don’t feel like it hits, but you know, five hundred to a thousand just, you know, big, you know, ten to twenty percent experience bonuses for doing a quest, you know, and then update the achievement system so that personas each can take part in those different achievements. Now, I’m not saying that the the persona would not get credit, like you know, like the slayer achievements, right? Like those would be shared between all your personas, but like the, you know, terror of Loch Linn and all the different questing achievements throughout the game, those are all kind of split between the different personas so they can all do them on their own. I feel I I [laughter] I feel like this this would help. Uh, I mean, I feel like otherwise a lot of compute is going to be wasted on Lothar. Now, I’m not trying to be negative or anything like that. I love this game more than anything. I play it every single day of my life, [laughter] and I’m trying trying so hard to see things in, you know, different ways and I I feel like it’s there’s going to be a situation and uh I I think that is, you know, something, you know, that will be uh definitely uh better for the game. I mean, then they don’t even have to think of one for next year. I just gave it to them. Uh it’s, you know, take that, move it there, and uh it should be good. And then that, you know, that’ll lead into the cuz like the expansion launches in December, right? So, if this is launched as in August, and then, you know, people uh play these seasonally, right? The season is usually May to, you know, to December, right? Uh before people go and play back on live or they, you know, they do whatever else they do. And having that that broken up, plus Legends, which is is going to be a very compelling option for a lot of people uh based on what I’ve played, right? Like, it’s going to be a very compelling and uh for for Legends to for Legends to stay relevant from, you know, July, August, September, they’re going to have to launch Kunark uh like around the time of the expansion, right? Like it is they’re not going to be able to go 6 months plus on classic, all right? Like, at the current way that it is right now, you can complete everything in Legends in probably less than 2 months without trying. Um that means that they’re going to have to launch Kunark, they’re going to have to launch Velious, they’re going to have to launch Luclin, they’re going to have to have these next expansions right at launch. And uh it’s going to be, you know, it’s going to be kind of crazy. Now, I I think Legends should be a TLP server, personally, but uh you know, that’s, you know, they they went with a separate game, but definitely I think Lothar should move to 2027. Frostfire should pick up personal loot this year. And it should continue uh through uh the rest of year as the TLP server. I think it it’s strong enough on its own to have that and adding personal loot to it would, you know, make it even more friendly to the player base so that they they it’s just nice, right? Like the way personal loot is implemented in Legends uh [snorts] is the only way that they could probably [laughter] possibly implement personal loot in in the game. Like I don’t see how there would be any difference between if they implemented like wow personal loot where it’s just like total [\h__\h] random that you get something. Uh whereas that’s not going to feel guys. Going to feel exactly like it is now, right? Everything is is random now. So I just don’t understand how they would be able to add personal loot without giving everybody an item anyway. So like uh and the system seems to be already built for Legends since it’s the same server code base uh and everything like that. So I I think they could definitely do that. Uh and maybe if it doesn’t launch on May, right? Like >> [laughter] >> I should have thought about this before. Uh you know, add it, you know, a week later something like that or just flip the switch, turn it on. Uh you know, fix the fix the issues as they come up, but definitely um I feel like this is probably the this the the better play. I just don’t see how it would launching two TLP servers with different rule sets in the same year uh right next to the launch of another game that is from your same like I would assume it’s, you know, your same studio, right? I mean not the same studio, but the same you know, company, right? Like it’s all the same thing. >> [laughter] >> It’s all the same thing, so I I think it’s just a better solution. I don’t know. What do you think? What What do What do the What do the other people out there think? I came to this in a a fever rage thinking about this while driving from San Antonio to Austin to pick up my kid. And I I feel like with that Heroes’ Journey questing additions, I mean there should be could be other bonuses you add to it, too. Uh but making the questing experience feel impactful, right? Like Oh my god, I got you know, 30% experience for doing that quest, right? Now, the cool thing is is that like these expansions level lock, so it’s not like I can sit there and do quests until I hit, you know, you know, 130 on Lothar, right? I’m going to get level locked and then the experience should turn into AA experience. You know, help people max out their personas a little faster. You know, just a little a little bit of help, you know? I don’t know. What do you think? Tell me what you think. Leave a comment down below. Am I Am I dumb? Am I stupid? And do I Do I Do I Am I Am I not bringing out what I the you know, the right thing? I I really would really like to know what your guys’s thoughts are out there. But thank you very much for watching and please have a fantastic day. >> Mhm.
